Timeless Cities with Marco Minozzi
Marco Minozzi was born in Rome in 1962. At the age of 14, he began a study of design, of the figure and of perspective that has engaged him for many years. Subsequently, he studied the technique of oil painting on canvas, learning from the ancient masters of the 15th and 16th Centuries, mastering the secrets concerning the preparation of the colours, the methods and the materials.
Marco strives to create a representation of an almost futuristic urban landscape, his palette of monochromatic and earthy tones has an industrial feel and approach. Combining traditional painting techniques, photographic imagery as a starting point, together with some historical contexts, he produces paintings that have unexpected beauty, despite the subject being portrayed.
His paintings, even though they have these starting points, are completely imagined. The perspective differs in that sometimes he is part of the landscape and at other times he takes an all-encompassing view, where the viewer almost becomes the maker and has omniscience within the cities in his universe.
Presented alongside the work of Angela Edwards in Urban Life, there are key differences in perspective, as Angela depicts the details of her Urban Landscapes, as well as the cinematic quality. While Angela is determined to bring these digital images that overwhelm us into the present and have them stop and be observed by us, Marco employs this quality to make us think that his work is from the past, with his sepia colours and specs of dust prevalent on top of the paintings.
